Nuance finalized talks to buy Vlingo

Nuance has announced today that they have finalized their talks and has sign an agreement to buy Vlingo. For those who don’t know, Vlingo is an app which specializes in providing a voice assistant for your calls and other phone functions using voice activation.

This move certainly has something to do with Apple and Siri as some of you know that Apple bought Nuance a few months ago for that same reason.

Unfortunately, we have very information on the details of the sale and what Nuance specifically wants with Vlingo but I’m guessing it’s the latter’s patent portfolio that the former really wants.

Apple would have to change the iPad’s name in China

Apple has reportedly lost a patent case against a company in China over the name iPad. This means Apple would have to change the name of their tablet device to something else if they want to avoid paying $1.5 billion in damages to the company.

It’s Apple’s decision at this point and it’s up to them if they are willing to pay the said amount just to keep selling the device in China under the same name. What do you think? Would Apple go as far as paying  $1.5 billion just to keep the name in such a big market?

Samsung Galaxy Tab banned for another week in Australia

If you could recall, an Australian court has lifted the ban of Samsung Galaxy Tab last week which prompted the company to set a December 2 launch of their new Galaxy Tab. That appears to have been stopped as the court gave Apple another week to appeal their case.

That’s another week of Holiday sales down the drain for the Korean-based company as it moved the ban until December 9. The real hearing will start on Spring of next year and that’s why Samsung is working round the clock to overthrow the injunction of not allowing Samsung to sell its Galaxy Tab until then as soon as possible.

Because of this, an online retailer named Handtec has decided to stop selling the Galaxy Nexus until the volume bug is fixed.
When we tried to look for Samsung’s answer to the issue, they refused to give an official statement about the problem.

HP offering the Touchpad to its employees for only $99!

It looks like HP is going extreme lengths just to get rid of their TouchPad surplus as the company has issued an internal memo saying that they will be offering the HP Touch Pad for $99 and $149.
It will be a first-come, first served buy and it will be limited to one unit per employee. The sale will happen starting the 28th of September so I guess we can expect numerous Touch Pad units being auctioned on eBay afterwards.
The HP Touch Pad may be one of the biggest failures of an electronics company, like Zune.
